CONTEXT: translation of a web interface for online virtual data rooms.
It is about different types of searches, including, fuziness.

Explanation:
Quand je lis les définitions que donne le GDT à "radical" et "racine", je suis d'accord avec Gilles sur "recherche de radical".
Toutefois, en lisant votre définition spécifique: "Stemming finds variations on endings, extending the search to cover grammatical variations of a word", je pense qu'on parle en fait de "désinences":
"La variabilité se manifeste ordinairement dans la finale des mots. Cette finale variable est appelée désinence et s'oppose au radical: par exemple, le verbe chanter a le radical chant- et prend diverses désinences; certaines sont purement graphiques comme -ent; d'autres, à la fois graphiques et phonétiques, comme -ons." - Grévisse, Le bon usage, art. 139 - remarque (p. 193)
Le GDT donne comme exemple bleu (radical); bleuet, bleuir et bleuissement, si je comprends bien, introduisent les désinences -et, -ir et -issement que trouveraient le "stemming".
