English to French translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology) / about "things" causing error messages in a new programm | | English term or phrase: gem | Does anybody know what a gem could be when developpers write a sofware in an API?
(gems are interacting, and one gem is not supported by the other gems it depends on).
(I have seen it in some programming websites, guess it doesn't need translating in French cause it's a programming line in some way, but I'd love to understand just what it is exactly, what it means, and what it does in a software. (And of course, if some Frenchies have a word for it, why not...)
Thanks for any clue.

Mais Proz ne laisse sélectionner qu'une réponse... 2 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |

| Reference: Gem definition
Reference information: 1.2 What is a Gem?
A gem is a packaged Ruby application or library. It has a name (e.g. rake) and a version (e.g. 0.4.16).
Gems are managed on your computer using the gem command. You can install, remove, and query (amoung other things) gem packages using the gem command.
RubyGems is the name of the project that developed the gem packaging system and the gem command. You can get RubyGems from the main rubygems.org repository, or the old RubyForge repository.
En clair, c'est une bibliothèque (ensemble de programmes) empaquetés pour diffusion vers les utilisateurs.
