English term or phrase:tell me: don't show me
Hi everyone!
I have found this expression in a report on succession law, as the fundamental registration policy for electronic conveyancing. But it also appears in many instances on Google for general topics.
I guess this expression means the opposite of "il faut le voir pour le croire", implying that they trust you, but I'm not sure how to translate it into French..
Should it be literal, shall I give an explanation of the original expression, or is there an equivalent in French?
Here is the complete sentence:
"to have unfortunate and unforeseeable side effects in relation to the systems of electronic conveyancing to be introduced. The fundamental registration policy for electronic conveyancing of “tell me: don’t show me” will be undermined as the person carrying out the electronic conveyancing will not be aware of the potential of “clawback” in many cases and will have nothing to tell – i.e. no information to supply in his application"
Merci à toutes les deux pour vos suggestions et votre aide, toutes mes excuses d'avoir pris tant de temps à répondre, j'ai été littéralement engloutie par cette traduction :( Entre temps, j'ai eu le retour de la relectrice, et nous avons décidé de laisser l'expression en anglais et d'intégrer une note de bas de page (bien que ces notes étaient très mal vues par certains de mes enseignants...) en précisant : "Principe de déclaration sans présentation d’informations probantes". Il me semble que c'est la solution la plus satisfaisante en l'absence d'un équivalent... Merci encore en tout cas !!
Mon impression est que ce système électronique facilite la consultation et la conservation des documents mais que le conseil important en matière de "clawback" risque de ne plus exister.
Et je ne vois pas la similitude entre les deux systèmes de dépôts électroniques.
je suis très peu sûre de moi, l'esquisse d'idée que j'ai eue relève + du contexte et de la référence que j'ai trouvée. Attention ta réf. concerne 'show me, don't tell me' (proposition inverse même si les 2 sont évidemment liées), est-ce volontaire?
Je ne pense pas : en fait, l'expression ne doit pas être complète (show me the money).
Je vais recopier une référence qui peut être éclairante (j'avais ouvert une autre page) et à première vue, ce ne serait pas à traduire mais à expliquer.

Bonsoir, dans un contexte juridique, pourrait-il s'agir d'une déclaration sur l'honneur, ou d'une simple déclaration/attestation - i.e. sans nécessité de fournir des justificatifs (to show)?
