Le terme « leasing » vient de l'anglo-américain et peut se traduire par remettre, louer ou affermer. Il est en usage dans la plupart des pays, à l'exception de la France où l'on parle de crédit-bail. On peut le décrire comme une opération consistant à transmettre le droit de jouissance et d'utilisation d'un bien, pour une durée déterminée, moyennant le paiement d'une indemnité périodique
