English term or phrase: commitments
Most enterprises lack the luxury of deploying a complete solution all at once. Instead, they phase the implementation of the ultimate deliverables. When looking at the desired effects, incremental deployment of e-business permits everyone involved to make the necessary modifications to processes, commitments, and get a feel for the new possibilities.

engagement
Explanation:
Commitment means more than a financial engagement and although ti si the same term it is used here in a diferent context than financial, in my opinion.

Termium, for example has a definition of commitment as:

participation*a

Hope this helps

commitment

Explanation:

engagements, obligations

Explanation:
Ordinary general sense : a commitment is an undertaking, an obligation, something which you have said or promised to do. It restricts your freedom. You may not wish to see it through to the end but as you are committed, you have committed yourself to it, you have no choice in the matter.

Financial : It is also a future financial obligation or contingent liability. With regard to liabilities (passif) on a balance sheet (bilan), commitment means "engagement hors bilan". In terms of banking products (produits bancaires), more specifically to do with credit techniques (tehcniques du crédit), a commitment is an "engagement de substitution". Banking fees and charges (commissions & frais) can include a commitment fee (commission d'engagement).

Which ever way you look at it is something which has been undertaken and from which there is no escaping.

Hope this has shed some light.
