RED TAPE 21:30 Nov 24, 2011
One of my biggest pet peaves is governmental and large corporation red tape. Even ProZ.com falls into this category.
Since I have only 1200 characters, I'll get to the point. All of the above answers are valid ... in my humble opinion.
I'll give you an example. The last time I visited China, I landed in Beijing and went all over. I then visited Hong Kong. When I came back to the mainland, they wouldn't let me in ... because my visa was only good for ONE entry into China ... even if Hong Kong was no longer a British possession but a Chinese city. They wanted me to get back on the boat to Honk Kong and buy another visa. You don't argue with wenty soldiers pointing sub machine guns at you. I tried to reach the Canadian embassy or a Canadian consulate but being a Sunday night, the offices are closed. You had a nice message in English, French and Mandarin but you had to leave a message! The Canadian government wants my tax dollars and the Chinese government want my tourist dollars. Nobody told me beforehand that I needed a different kind of visa! Not my government, not the Chinese government, nobody! I hate bureaucratic red tape!
