E-Glass or electrical grade glass was originally developed for stand off insulators for electrical wiring. It was later found to have excellent fibre forming capabilities and is now used almost exclusively as the reinforcing phase in the material commonly known as fibreglass.

"Porter et coll. (1997) ont exposé trois
différents types de barres d’armature en résine polyester
isophtalique renforcée de fibres de verre de type E à une
solution alcaline et à une température maximale de 60°C
durant des périodes allant de deux à trois mois. Leurs résultats
expérimentaux indiquent que les vieillissements accélérés
réalisés réduisaient sévèrement la résistance ultime en
traction des barres d’armature de PRFV. Dejke (1999) a
démontré pour sa part que certaines fibres de verre ..."
