En supposant (à confirmer par Asker) qu'il s'agit de la finition d'un engrenage (polissage du creux d'une dent d'engrenage, par ex).

Mais ça fait beaucoup de suppositions ... avec des "si", on mettrait Paris en bouteille, comme dit mon épouse ...
