Explanation:
Harvesting machines are equipped with a long archimedian screw (= auger) which feeds the cut crop laterally toward an inlet for processing in the machine. These augers are sometimes fitted with fingers that help to push the drop along and prevent clogging. These are retractable and are timed by a mechanism (arbre a came is the usual device in petrol engines for example) to do so. The bilingual site below may be helpful.
The second ref. has a picture of an auger with retractabe fingers.
NB Experts may have the exact term. This shouold get you by.
