"This has been brought up before, though is a requirement to have on diesels while working within a gas plant or refinery because of the potential presence of H2S gas. It'll make a diesel rev untill it self distrucks.
The idea is to be able to shut it down via a sealed moveable valve off the intake. If H2S ia presnt in the air, merely shutting off the engine won't stop the engine from running as the H2S becomes the fuel source.
The trouble I have is unless you happen to have an automatic shutdown, and there is enough H2S in the air to keep the diesel going, you'll be dead before you reach the truck or welder to actually shut it down. H2S is quite lethal as well. "

Once a flammable mixture is being drawn into the engine intake it may not be possible to stop the engine by closing down the fuel supply. An air intake valve guaraantees a rapid and safe engine shut down. "
