In European French, do we use the word :

Assemblage or
Montage

Any other suggestions ? it's part of a manual describing how to assemble different parts of the machine

Explanation:
If the term is alone inside the text, I would prefer to translate it by 'assemblage' ...

BUT ...

very often the term assembly in acombination of words is not translated. Effectively in this case it describes directly the part itself and the part is defined by another suite of terms.
For example : pipe rack assembly is translated by 'parc à tige' and the word 'assembly' in this case is not translated ...

Translating a large manual two months ago, I had the problem translating 'assembly' and 90% of the case it was not translated because it was combined with a suite of words in an expression ...

So, I think that if you want to find the ideal translation,you must see the word in each part of the manual and the local context (inside the text)
