As mentioned previously, the mother can use either commercial infant formula or home-prepared formula as a breast milk substitute.
**Commercial infant formula**.
Commercial infant formula is based on modified cow’s milk or soy protein.
The milk is modified to mimic the nutrient composition of breast milk and is usually adequately fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, including iron.

Il se trouve qu'une de nos collègues très impliquée dans cette traduction a eu l'extrême gentillesse de me contacter individuellement et sa question m'a fait réfléchir et approfondir le problème. Voici le résultat de nos échanges, à vous d'apprécier ! :
Son message : "Je suis d'accord avec votre commentaire concernant le lait maternisé mais dans le texte de Geneviève l'opposition est

Ma réponse :

Grand merci pour vos explications. Pour éviter toute confusion, le vrai lait maternel (humain ou animal) ne peut pas se conserver plus de 24h à 15°c ou 3 à 7 jours dans un réfrigérateir bien géré, c.à.d. à 0°, deux circonstances inimaginables en Afrique dans la population générale. Ceci dit, il peut éventuellement se conserver 3 à 4 mois sous forme congelée (au minimu à -8°C) - encore plus inimaginable en Afrique ! (sauf pour les quelques riches, généralement "blancs"). Donc, il s'agit bien du lait "maternisé", et pas du lait humain à la "tireuse", à mon humble avis.
