"referral" involves referring a patient to a hospital, and a counter-referral involves the hospital referring the patient back to the primary health care service with details of what happened following the initial referral. A classic scenario would be a patient having seen a consultant for diagnosis and treatment and then being referred back to (counter-referral) the GP/health visitor/etc for follow-up
I have a problem with "référence", hence I was looking for something that wouldn't have réference in it. For referral, I used "aiguillage" or "orientation"...
but if contre-reference is the way to go, then I'll have to go with référence...
