Medical - Medical: Health Care
English term or phrase: notice
I am translating a brochure called "Notice of health information privacy practices" (from HIPAA)for my local hospital in Portland Maine; the francophone base in Portland is mostly franco-american/canadian and african refugees from Togo, Congo, Rwanda.
In this title, I've translated the word "notice" by "Code" but the proofreader thinks it's too strong. I agree the word “Code” might have too much of a legal/rigid meaning but those practices come from a legal Act (HIPAA) so there is legal weight to them. The document is also meant to be accessible to anyone and should help anyone understands the Act so I am thinking using words such as “guide ” or "memento" instead of "Code"; the proofreader suggested "notice" "avis" or "notification" but they don't seem totally appropriate to me. For information, this is how I initially translated this title "Code des pratiques concernant la confidentialite des informations medicales".
I'll be very happy to read your suggestions. Thank you.

I think "Guide" fits best as it both describe the content and the objet, the brochure.
Thank you!

I could have used that but I already have the word "informations" in the same sentence and I'm also dealing with a 12 page brochure; to me a "note" is shorter.

>> Note d'information sur..."health information privacy practices" ?

Explanation:
Notice is almost translated as such. "Code" would be a clear mistranslation.

P.S. I meant \"always\". The notice (avis) is indeed about those legal practices in terms of information privacy, but it is and remains \"un avis\". You cannot translate \"notice\" by \"code\", by no stretch of the imagination.:)

-2, Intriguing Question: If you\'re SO satisifed with \"Guide\" as the CORRECT \"translation\" for this HIPAA official document, why did you give the fellow only 2 points?...

Reminder: For the sake of HIPAA terminology CONSISTENCY, when you use \'AVIS\' privately, you may just copy the full correct title from the official documents that I previously submitted!
