English to French translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / first aid for snake bites
English term or phrase: "one has the black stones"
in the sentence :
Most first aid classes do not recommend cutting, but some tally cuts, however, may be made if one has the black stones, which are used to suck out snake venom.

The section, related to first aid for snakes bites, explains that cutting into the flesh around the fang marks is not recommended and can lead to serious injury. This sentence however, makes an exception to one who has "the black stones".

Clarification request(s) and response
Dr Sue Levy: 11:38am Jan 10, 2007: Is this fiction? Certainly not mainstream medical. For a start, tally cuts are what you would make in a piece of wood for counting.

"quelqu'un a en sa possession des pierres noires"
Explanation:
"Black stone"
The so-called "Black Stone" or "Belgian Stone," thanks to its absorptive quality, works to neutralize the fatal effects of snakebite. It does not replace treatment with the serum antidote, which is what is recommended, but in the absence of the serum it can be of great help.

The french equivalent is "pierre noire"
Semblable à un petit caillou, elle soigne les morsures d'animaux venimeux.

neutral hirselina: Bonne explication, mais la traduction n'est pas très bonne et n'aurait sûrement pas dû être mise dans le glossaire.
