A deux reprises, après l’essai « Gerboise Rouge » le 27 décembre 1960 et l’essai « Gerboise Verte » le 25 avril
1961, ces reconnaissances ont été complétées par des opérations terrestres impliquant une centaine de militaires.
En effet, en pleine « guerre froide », le risque d’un conflit nucléaire généralisé étant prégnant, des exercices militaires
en ambiance « post-explosion » ont été réalisés.
