English term or phrase: tooth to tail
It is a ratio used in the civil area and is often translated as "effectifs directs versus effectifs indirects" but I look for an appropriate translation in the military field. I thought of "Soutenus versus soutenants" but that might be some better idea.

Il y a d'autre possibilités: "Forces de l'avant-forces de soutien", mais le concept est le même.
Je ne pense pas que l'armée française ait adopté le "dents-queue", qui serait objet de moult gaudrioles! ;-)
