"The attacking French forces never made a positive identification of the nationality of the convey before attacking." And the text explains then that the flag on the convey could not let room for any doubt about the convey's nationality.

It is a report about an unjustified attack.

J'ai un doute sur le sens étant donné l'explication qui suit : on m'explique après qu'une reconnaissance a été faite auparavant ne laissant aucun doute sur la nationalité du convoi, j'ai un doute. Mais c'est bien "of" et pas "to". Ils ne sont pas identifiés avant d'attaquer ou ils n'ont pas identifier la nationalité du convoi avant de l'attaquer ? .
