I tried many different French versions (that I thought would be right) and nothing comes up on the Internet.

Explanation:
Nutrients means the whole range of useful material provided in a food, including vitamins, minerals and trace elements as well as energy. I think Petitavoine's suggestion is good, but focuses only on the energy, not the other aspects of the word 'nutrients'. I agree with Tony M - the idea of nutrients released slowly and over a long period seems to make sense.
