English to French translations [Non-PRO]
English term or phrase: Backshift
This is a linguistic (grammatical term)for which I need the exact translation in French. It means that the verb goes back one tense in a conditional clause or a reported proposition as in :"I can't come". "He said he couln't come".

Leave it in English! I have looked up the Bon Usage, many other French grammars., I think it doesn't exist.
But I found an interesting hompepage
