|English term or phrase: Grandmother|
|I received the following request. Perhaps you can help:|

Hi, I have been searching and searching for an African word for "grandmother." If possible, could you please tell me an easy to pronounce word for grandmother--preferrably one used in Ghana or Sinagal (please forgive my spelling) Seira Leon.
"maam" /mom/ (held-out ah vowel)
means "grandlparent" in Wolof (spoken in Sénégal.)
Hausa (spoken in Ghana, Niger, elsewhere) would be my first choice, because of the extent of the language, but I have no Hausa dictionary on hand. (And my Hausa-speaking friend is out of town. :)
See the references below for more possibilities.
