spam Explanation: Seems to be the "pis-aller" adopted by computer magazines in France. Not very imaginative, but widespread. Mark one thing: the operative word here is "in France". If you're translating for Switzerland or Quebec, you may need to find another word. In general, beware of the French equivalents given by Termium or Le Doc in the field of computers and Internet: this is one area where terminology can be very different between France and Quebec. OTOH, "courriel" may start to catch on this side of the pond, too. But not half as quickly as e-mail (or mèl (ugh), for that matter). Suz in Lyon |

pourriel Explanation: ... is my favorite. <BR>.. as well as "polluriel": "Le terme «pollu» est la forme abrégée de «polluriel», mot-valise créé à partir des mots «POLLUtion» et «courRIEL». Il permet de conserver le même esprit ludique entourant l'origine du mot anglais «spam» pour désigner cette notion. Les termes «pourriel» ou « courriel-rebut » (junk e- mail), «message-poubelle» et «pub-poubelle» (junk mail) peuvent également être utilisés, mais ils ont un sens plus général. En effet, un polluriel est un courriel-rebut envoyé par pollupostage (spamming).
