English term or phrase: HIEATT
This is my surname. We believe it originally came from William the Conqueror from Normandy and later changed into an English version. Is there a French version?

French translation:HIEATT
Explanation:
I have checked out various genealogical databases in France and whilst there are various entries for Hieatt, most of these are in the US (Kentucky). This page, however, includes one member in France with Hieatt ancestors, which may be a starting point...

Thank you for this starting point. While it is not a site on French variations of names, I can contact French Hieatts and ask them. I am looking for actual spellings and pronunciations. Perhaps I should have been more specific.

I have done genealogy and my family is from Kentucky, after immigration. Our specific line is the original line of Hieatts that came from William the Conqueror's court and time. Other spellings were americanized versions and have nothing to do with us.

HIET ??

Explanation:
Hiet

Nom assez rare, rencontré dans l'Aisne au XVIIe siècle. C'est apparemment un dérivé de hie (masse pour enfoncer les pieux) désignant celui qui utilise cet outil.
