I cannot deny that I use it to speak to others without speaking something to others. Not all language is *emotive self-muttering.* Even atheists publish books expecting others to read them.

Explanation:
As CMJ has seen, 'self-muttering' is , I think, just a fancy "psycho-philosophical" way of saying "talking to yourself"... so I propose a fancy way of saying it in French.
Quite a few ghits both for 'self-muttering' and 'discours solitaire'... will put some refs in later if necessary, but must run now....
