Yet, on the heels of School mamishness followed another impulse......

Explanation:
Totally literal, but could this work, perhaps?

'Schoolmarm' conjures up such a complete image, it's hard to see how to sum it up so succinctly in FR --- needs the equivalent expression of 'sainte nitouche'; in fact, perhaps a similar made-up name might work (cf. for example 'marie-couche-toi-là')?

I guess the best way to turn it might be to see just what it is being contrasted with, i.e. what follows

I couldn't help thinking of 'maîtresse chignon-serré'...!
