By no means the sole or authoritative reference, but I notice that GDT offers 'tirer' for the verb 'to print' in the specific context of photographic printing.
Don't we talk about 'tirage' and 'clichés'? I can't say I've ever come across 'imprimer' used in this context, though admittedly I've not had that much exposure to this sort of language in FR.
For it to sound better in FR, I think I'd start by considering the EN as if it were "by means of the enlarger, I project the image from the negative onto the paper"
