Here is the paragraph where the expression occurs: "Among the diagnostic criteria of what some psychiatrists now categorize as (PTSD) are diminished interest in significant activities, a feeling of detachment or estrangement from others and « constricted affect »." Thanks for any suggestions!

Explanation:
Dans le contexte du syndrome de stress post-traumatique, un des symptômes qui "permet" de "gérer" le problème est l'émoussement des affects (une sorte d' "apathie", un retrait affectif de la personne par rapport au monde qui l'entoure, pour éviter de recevoir trop de stimuli pénibles...)

je ne sais pas pourquoi la suite après "plutôt" a disparue, mais je voulais dire "plutôt "émoussement affectif"... :)
