English term or phrase: commited for
"the authors found that only 49% of the patients had an history of suicide attempts and only 25% were commited for a suicide attempt'

Je ne saisi pas le sens de ce verbe.

plus loin je lis "39% of the patients were commited for suicidal ideation"

Est-ce que je peux traduire par " a été décelé/sont sujet à...idéation suicidaire"?
Mais dans ce cas quel est le sens de la première phrase? "étaient résolus à tenter de se suicider? a été dévoilé"?

avaient été internés pour tentative de suicide

Explanation:
"to commit somebody" can mean "interner" quelqu'un - here presumably in a psychiatric ward.

In the second part, you could put \"avaient été internés pour tendances suicidaires\"

As Rita says, \"suicidal ideation\" refers to \"idées suicidaires\" (= tendances suicidaires better), but \"tentative de suicide\" means they actually tried and failed...

followed a therapy / traiter pour

Explanation:
After asking a psychiatrist in the Psy Ward, he told me the verb was probably wrong and asked who the author was.
He thinks that the probable sentence would be "49% of the patients had a history of suicide attempts and only 25% were hospitalized or followed a therapy for a suicide attempt". The words would also be suitable for "for suicidal ideation".

Sorry, I forgot to mention it was the Grenoble University Hospital

\"25% were hospitalized or followed a therapy for a single suicide attempt\" would also seem logical.

... ont été hospitalisés

Explanation:
Aux USA, le patient doit donner son consentement pour être hospitalisé dans une institution psychiatrique. Le patient 'prend l'engagement' de rester à l'hôpital, d'oû le terme 'commit'. Il se traduit par 'interner' ou 'hospitaliser'.
