English term or phrase: Grade 2 listed
Hi people,

I'm translating a British TV show about interior design and real estate from English into French (it is called House Doctor).

Issue: My document mentions a grade 2 listed Victorian property, and I have no clue what this precisely means.

Could you explain me what grade 2 listed actually refers to?

Thanks in advance

French translation:explanation
Explanation:
it means a building has been officially recognised (and added to a 'list') as being of particular architectural/historical value. this usually applies to buildings of a certain period, as being a valuable record of the architectural style of that time. in practice, this means thatthe owner is restricted to making changes in keeping with the character of the building, and they have to get official permission for any significant changes. grade 2 is the second level of listing out of 3.

agree  Conor McAuley: If it's for TV, it's probably best to keep it simple - limited time to explain. If in a written text, you probably need to gloss with some of the above.
