Marketing - Retail
English term or phrase: leading brand
contexte :

In the early 80s, XXX launched two own brands on the market: YYY and TTT. YYY is a leading brand whose quality is guaranteed. The quality of TTT, which includes over 8000 articles, is similar to that of the major brands but at a price which is 15 to 20% lower.

Pas certain de la signification de "leading" ici. Merci d'avance pour vos conseils.

une marque leader

Explanation:
Well, 'leader' is used a lot in FR (cf. 'Leader Price' even!), so I think you could do a lot worse than stick with the ghastly anglicism!

Otherwise, R+C suggests 'de premier plan', which is at least the right sense here.

neutral  Tony M: It may well be a 'major brand' too, but here it's is specifically a 'leading' one

neutral  Tony M: Not quite sure that's the right meaning here; really means 'flagship brand', w.r.t. the brand owner, whereas this is 'leading' w.r.t. other brands / No, because again, 'vedette' tends to mean 'star brand' (w.r.t. the brand owner, again)
