Explanation:
this may sound a little too obvious, but I would nevertheless translate it literally, as above. If it had been "extreme value law", you could have translated it by "loi des valeurs extremes". But a law is not the same as a theory. It may be part of a theory, but a theory is a whole system, not just a law; it is a "collection of propositions to illustrate the principles of a subject" as my dictionary tells me.

I have found a few sites that use the expression I propose.
