"Le principe de fonctionnement.
L'antenne émet un champ électromagnétique de faible puissance. Lorsque le coureur passe à travers ce champ avec son dossard, (équipé d'une puce et d'une antenne appelé Inlay), la puce reçoit par induction, le courant nécessaire à son activation. A ce moment elle envoie l'information qu'elle contient , c'est-à-dire le numéro de dossard, en retour sur l'antenne. Le lecteur RFID s'occupe alors de stocker cette information ainsi que l'heure précise de passage dans sa mémoire, en vue de le transferer ultérieurement sur un ordinateur. Le passage par l'informatique permet d'obtenir le temps effectif du coureur portant le dossard, simplement en soustrayant l'heure de départ de l'heure d'arrivée, le tout avec une précision de la seconde."
