English term or phrase: bellying a horse
This is when a rider will lay down on top of the horse (with his stomach, or "belly" down) to introduce weight to a new horse so he gets used to it. After performing the Bellying routine for a bit, they will slowly start to introduce having a rider sit on the horse.

En fait dans notre jargon de cavaliers, nous utilisons le terme de "se mettre en ac à patates" sur le cheval, qui est bien la position décrite ici..

Si quelqu'un connaît un meilleur terme, je suis intéressée.
