How is the expression being used (in context, in the source language), and to whom or what is it referring.
Generally, traditionally, 'outfitter' has meant a clothing supplier; however, in a sproting situaion like golf, it could also mean a shop that in addition sells all sorts of golfing equipment; I strongly susppect that these two basic meanings are going to lead to different translations in FR.
Cf. the slightly dated term "gentleman's outfitter" represents the equally dated 'chemisier' and perhaps more current 'confection pour homme' (= 'menswear'), for example. |
