The caissons are flooded with seawater through a manifold in the utility shaft. The manifold is fed from two independent seawater inlet lines, one from the riser shaft and one external to the utility shaft, to provide suction to the two firewater pumps The caissons are protected by relief valves. This is on a petrol/gas offshore platform.
