'Coimirce' is the official translation of 'guardianship' according to the Terminology Committee (Oll-Liosta Téarmaíochta (1985-2002)). Ó Dónaill's dictionary gives 'coimircíocht' for 'wardship' which is probably close to 'guardianship'. Another common phrase is 'faoi choimirce Dé' (under the protection or guardianship of God).
