in meinem Text kommt folgende Phrase vor:
"...external chartered accountant / cost and works accountant who.."

cost and works accountant
Kostenbuchhalter

Explanation:
May be the expression you are looking for here. I would certainly advise against using "Wirtschaftsprüfer" for "chartered accountant",, which is "(staatlich) geprüfter Bilanzbuchhalter", according to Pons/Collins.

A "Wirtschaftsprüfer" is more commonly an "auditor", although the term does also cover "accountant", but a CHARTERED accountant has a special status. And a "Cost & works accountant" is not the same thing...

I'm sure if you contact Ralf Lemster on these pages, he'll tell you. If you're in luck, he might even answer your question.

Whatever you do, do not take my answers before any peer agrees, because I am NOT sure of the German terms.

Like I said, it would be wise to wait a little for further peer comment, but yes, that would fit, IMO

Notes to answerer
Asker: Danke! Also "...Bilanzbuchhalter / Kostenbuchhalter..."?

Asker: According to the Cornelsen dictionary from 2006 "chartered accountant" = beeideter Wirtschaftsprüfer, geprüfter Bücherrevisor, Bilanzprüfer. They don´t seem to make any difference between "Wirtschaftsprüfer" and "Bilanzprüfer"
