I think "Paar" could insinuate a romantic relationship between the two.
Another possibility would be "Erfolgskombination", but then it´s not immediately clear that you are talking about people, not things.

Auch wenn es latent doppeldeutig ist, unterstellt man damit unterschwellig, dass sich die beiden verstehen (allerdings gebe ich zu, dass ich gerade einen Bericht über Krupp-Thyssen gesehen habe ;-)). M.E. ebenfalls günstig: man stutzt einen kleine Moment - und liest in den Text rein.
