Hello,

The article I'm translating discusses pilot qualifications. The sentence is:

The pilot holds type ratings in all current production airplanes.

What is a "type rating"? I'm guessing that the pilot is rated to fly certain types/models of airplanes? But is there a German expression for this - or is the English used?
