Es geht um ein System zur Steuerung der Landungsreihenfolge von Flugzeugen. Dabei ist immer vom "cornerpost arrival flow" die Rede (z.B. managed versus random cornerpost arrival flow).

Explanation:
Arrival Fix/Cornerpost--At larger airports, the FAA has instituted structured arrivals that bring all arrival aircraft over geographic points (typically 4). These are typically 30 to 50 miles from the arrival airport and are separated by approximately 90 degrees. The purpose of these arrival fixes or cornerpost is so that the controllers can better sequence the aircraft, while keeping them separate from the departing flow of aircraft. In the future it may be possible to move these merge points closer to the airport, or eliminate them all together. In this case the arrival fix cornerpost referred to herein will be the point where the aircraft flows merge prior to landing.

Optimale Ausnutzung der Landebahnkapazitaet:
Alle Flugzeuge, die Frankfurt anfliegen, werden bereits in einer Entfernung von etwa 150 km in die rechnergestuetzte Planung von COMPAS einbezogen. Entsprechend der Verkehrssituation arbeitet COMPAS fortlaufend Vorschlaege fuer eine optimale Anflugreihen folge aus. Dadurch koennen die Flugzeuge so gefuehrt werden, dass die verfuegbare Landebahnkapazitaet optimal genutzt und Verspaetungen weitgehend vermieden werden. COMPAS entlastet die Fluglotsen bei ihrer Planungsarbeit.
Im einem Zeitraum von etwa zehn Jahren hat das Institut fuer Flugfuehrung die rechnergestuetzte Planungshilfe COMPAS fuer die Anfluglotsen entwickelt. Ab 1985 wurde COMPAS zusammen mit der Bundesanstalt fuer Flugsicherung (BFS) in Simulationen intensiv erprobt und in eine operationelle Version umgestaltet. Seit 1989 wird das System am Flughafen Frankfurt im realen Luftverkehr einer Felderprobung unterzogen.
