(A. Oppermann. Areonautical English. Wörter- und Handbuch der Luftfahrt. Aeronautischer Verlag, Baldham. 1990. ISBN 3-9801227-4-3 )
THE need for the conservation of materials has stimulated interest in the various methods of salvaging components which have become worn in service or inadvertently machined under-size. The practical methods now employed include electro-deposition, ***“fescolizing”,*** bronze welding and metal spraying. There remains a good deal to be learnt on the subject from the technical point of view, and it can safely be said to have touched only the fringe of the vast wastage of scrap components which could be recovered, with considerable saving in material, labour and money. http://emeraldinsight.com/Insight/viewContentItem.do?content...
FESCOL LIMITED, NORTH ROAD, LONDON, N.7.

Explanation: "The fescalised portion on an undercarriage (or any actuator or jack) is the shiny machined bit"
Probable typo for fescolized:
"Similar damage had also been found
on the spherical bearings of the three main rotor hydraulic
actuators and, significantly, on the external ‘Fescolized’
portion of the ram of two of them (see Figure 1).
