English term or phrase: line wire
wire net fencing. Line wires are usually the horizontal wires of wire net fence, in contrast to what's called stay wires, the vertical wires of the wire net fence. What's the technical term in German, please?
Verena Moser
United Kingdom
horizontale Drähte
Explanation:
After considerable searching, the most frequent descriptions found on German sites are "horizontale Drähte" and "vertikale Drähte".

The first thing that came to my mind was "Spanndraht", but that is the top wire that is pulled taut to support the wire mesh.
Your context says that the term is used for ALL the horizontal wires in the mesh fence.

\'Bindedrähte\' are the tie wires used to attach the mesh to the top & bottom Spanndrähte.
