Wenn es (im Kontext) eine Art "Belehrungsformel" durch einen "weisen Architekten" darstellt, würde ich es so verstehen:
"Die Bemühungen/Aktivitäten, die von der Grundfläche des umbauten Raumes/der gebauten Form (s. "alte" KudoZ-Frage!) hervorgerufen werden/ausgehen, sollten durch Gestaltung des offenen Raumes (/? der Freiflächen?) ergänzt werden."
(Wegen der unterschiedl. Thema-Rhema-Handhabung in beiden Sprachen habe ich den Satz noch "gespiegelt".)

... anderfalls könnte auch folgende Deutung möglich sein (Kontext?):
"Die im Erdgeschoß/unteren Geschoss der umbauten Form ihren Ursprung findende Aktivität/Nutzung sollte sich im [angrenzenden] offenen Raum fortsetzen können/ ... ihre Fortsetzung finden können".
