agree  David Moore: Sorry, Erich I should have got there a little while ago, but I was just too busy. The fly bridge crosses the stage above the drapes, scenery etc., and is where the snow is thrown from...

  -> Many thanks for your support, David. By the way, in the Nijinski-ballett from John Neumeier here in HH there is -which I would call- a fly bridge extending into the auditorium; many seats have to be left empty in the stalls on this occasion.

Portalbrücke


Explanation:
In Theater gibt es zwei Arten von Beleuchtungsbrücken: die Z-Brücken über dem Zuschauerraum, die meistens nicht begehbar sind, und die Portalbrücken über der Bühne, die meistens begehbar sind.
Da hier ausdrücklich "stages" gefragt sind, plädiere ich für die "Portalbrücke".

neutral  David Moore: This is almost right; my stepson however says that these are just inside the proscenium arch, attached to the wall, whereas the "flies" (or "fly bridges") are definitely not.
