Blocking in ist wohl normalerweise einer der ersten Schritte beim Malen einer Bildes, wobei Farben in Flächen aufgetragen werden, denen dann durch übermalen eine Struktur verliehen wird.
Würde dann hier als Gegensatz zu den linear strokes passen. Vielleicht ein Ansatz für die weitere Fachwortsuche.
