English term or phrase: Holding the Bag
Es handelt sich um den Titel eines Bildes von Otis Kaye, 1929. Sehr viel mehr Kontext dazu habe ich nicht. Leider habe ich auch kein Bild, hier also die Beschreibung: Es handelt sich um einige Geldscheine (Kaye war bekannt für seine "gefälschten"=gemalten Geldscheine), zusammen mit einem Briefumschlag und einer Quittung oder etwas Ähnlichem von der Utility Securities Company. Die haben Wertpapiere rausgegeben. Scheine und Umschlag sind an den Rändern leicht angekokelt. Außerdem ist an dem Bild ein kleines Netz mit Geldmünzen mittels eines Nagels befestigt. Mein Problem ist, dass sich "Holding the Bag" ja wahrscheinlich nicht nur auf dieses Netz beziehen wird. Für den Ausdruck an sich fand ich die Definitionen:

1: to be left empty-handed
2: to bear alone a responsibility that should have been shared by others

Erstere Definition wäre natürlich hübsch ironisch, angesichts der Brandspuren. Aber wie kriege ich eine Übersetzung hin, die den Verlust und das tatsächliche "gehaltene Geldnetz" umfasst? Ideen? Danke!
