Blow-By ist das Überströmen der Verbrennungsgase vom Brennraum in das Kurbelgehäuse. Diese Gas müssen wieder irgendwie raus aus dem Motor, daher die Kurbelgehäuseentlüftung, die z.B. am Zylinderkopfdeckel angeschlossen ist.
Wird auf Englisch auch PCV-System genannt (positive crankcase ventilation).
