Ich stelle gerade eine Liste von Rosen der Firma Meilland zusammen. Da gibt es eine Fülle von Zusammensetzungen mit "Folies", u.a.:

Hat dieses "Folies" irgendeine Bedeutung?
Explanation: Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass es sich hier um eine Anlehnung an das französische Wort "folie" handelt, was so etwas wie Wahnsinn, Verrücktheit (auch im positiven Sinne) oder starke Leidenschaft bedeutet

Explanation: wenn schon Französisch, würde ich eher an feuilles denken..., aber ehrlich gesagt, wenn schon Klaus das nicht weiss, der ja nun ein Experte in Sachen Rosen ist, dann ist es bestimmt schwierig.

Asker: Danke, Daniel, aber das hat mit Rosen nichts zu tun, sondern mit Sprache. Könnte aber hinkommen. Werde es mit Meilland direkt zu klären versuchen.
Explanation: Don't translate, if you check Meilland's trilingual we site, they don't either. These are apparently names of roses which do not change, they are like proper names. the element folies on those names may be derived from folies de roses, which is used for perfume.
I think it probably has more to do with folie than with feuilles, and them it may well be quite old and may have initially been a wordplay on both, who knows.

Explanation: Hallo Klaus, es gab früher insbes. um Paris herum Landfrischen von Reichen/Adligen, die natürlich inzwischen längst im Ballungsgebiet liegen. Dort hatten die Privilegierten auch die Möglichkeit, Gärten anzulegen.
Im Stadtplan findet man noch solche Namen (Rue de la Folie Méricourt ; Folies Bergère, etc.) als historisches Relikt.
