Es geht um Bio-Salat. Im Text werden der Anbau und die Ernte beschrieben, wobei ich mit diesem Teilsatz Probleme habe. Ich gehe von speziellen Behältern im Bio-Gewächshaus aus, aber der Anschluss mit "consists from" macht mich stutzig. Müsste es nicht "with natural soil THAT consists OF..." heißen?
Konkret geht es mir um den Terminus "foam". Ist da wirklich Schaum gemeint?

Schaum-stoff würde ich sagen.
Horticultural foam gibt es z.B. - die Frage ist, ob es auch eine umweltfreundliche Version gibt (aus Algen etc).
@ Hans: Du darfst Styropor gerne für äußerst umweltverträglich halten. Nicht zuletzt in der Herstellung. :-D
@Zea_Mays: Styropor besteht ausschliesslich aus Wasserstoff und Kohlenstoff - nach Deinem Verständnis müssten Eiben, Goldregen, Thujen usw ausgerottet werden - jede heutige Aldi-Tüte ist in der Natur harmloser als natürlicher Hühnerkot.
Das ist mir schon klar. Hier geht es aber um Bioanbau, und der verbietet (sich) in der Regel die Verwendung von solchem Material, dazu zählen auch Plastikfolien etc. Ein wahrer Biobauer würde niemals Styropor in die Erde geben.Er zieht Regenwürmer vor.
@ Zea _Mays: Styropor verhält sich in der Landwirtschaft neutral und wird seit Jahrzehnten zur Bodenauflockerung verwendet. Beim Abbrennen (wenn's denn sein muss) entstehen keine giftigeren Gase als beim biologischen Erdöl oder der biologischen Braunkohle

Letzteres taucht später nochmals auf: "The Compost is tested against the nutrients, heavy metals, pesticides residues and pathogenic micro-organisms before putting the compost in the field to start the Solarization and to be sure that the result is complying with the organic legislation." Dem Styropor-Hinweis werde ich nachgehen, das scheint mir plausibel.

Ingeborg -- don't really post below, because from the way the text reads it is not clear to me whether the trays are made of styrofoam or filled with styrofoam and compost -- natural soil does not naturally contain styrofoam and compost?! but compost can
