Thanks also to all the others who contributetd! MatsWitman: I know what you mean, intelligence sounds like espionage to me too. But industrial espionage is a crime, whereas these people run a legitimate business (doing somethig rather similar).

This will cover everything and is a usual description, sometimes even for a department in larger German Corporations.
"Geschäftsspionage" is too limiting and has an indecent tenor.

"Informationswesen" is avaibale on Google for reference.
